Why Rest Days on Vacation Are the Secret to a Better Trip 🌴✨

Why Rest Days on Vacation Are the Secret to a Better Trip 🌴✨

When planning a trip to places like Walt Disney World Resort or Universal Orlando Resort, it’s tempting to pack every single day with rides, shows, and nonstop fun. But here’s the secret to actually enjoying your vacation: schedule rest days.

Taking a break in the middle of your trip helps you recharge, avoid burnout, and soak in the magic without feeling rushed. A rest day doesn’t mean doing nothing — it can be a relaxing resort morning, a pool day, or even a laid-back water park adventure. 🌊☀️

While we love using rest days during trips to Walt Disney World Resort and Universal Orlando Resort, rest days aren’t just for theme park vacations. They’re perfect for any trip — whether you're exploring a new city, heading to the beach, visiting family, or taking a weekend getaway. Building in downtime allows you to recharge, avoid burnout, and actually enjoy the moments you planned your trip for. No matter where you're traveling, a little rest goes a long way toward making your vacation feel like a true vacation. 🌴✨

How We Use Our Rest Days
Our rest days are some of our favorite days of the trip. We usually start by sleeping in a little bit (because those early park mornings add up!). Then we enjoy a relaxed breakfast and take our time easing into the day.

From there, we like to head to the gym for a light workout — nothing too intense, just enough to keep moving. After that, it’s all about relaxation. We’ll spend time swimming, lounging by the pool, or soaking in the hot tub. Not all resorts have hot tubs (especially when we stay off property), but we always make the most of whatever amenities are available.

By late afternoon or evening, we’ll plan something low-key and enjoyable. Sometimes that means grabbing dinner at our resort, visiting family in the area, or heading out for a nice night at Disney Springs or Universal CityWalk. These evenings feel relaxed, fun, and give us something to look forward to without the hustle of a full park day. 🍽️✨

Why We Purposefully Plan Rest Days
We intentionally plan rest days between park days for a reason. We’ve done back-to-back park days before, and while it seemed like a great idea at the time, by the end of the trip, we were completely worn out. Instead of enjoying those last few days, we found ourselves wishing we had built in more downtime.

Scheduling rest days gives your body the break it needs — and trust me, your legs will thank you. Between walking miles each day, standing in lines, and early mornings, rest days help you recharge so you can fully enjoy your next park day.

Bonus: A Relaxing Way to Start Your Trip

Even better, guests staying between May 26 and September 8 can kick off their vacation with a splash — many guests receive a free water park day on their check-in day, making it the perfect low-pressure way to start your trip. Instead of jumping straight into long park days, you can float in a lazy river, enjoy a few slides, and ease into vacation mode.

Rest days aren’t wasted days — they’re what make the rest of your trip even better. You’ll come back to the parks refreshed, energized, and ready to enjoy every magical moment. ✨🎒
