Staying on Track with Fitness While on Vacation
Are you on a fitness journey but still love a good vacation? Same here. Just because I’m traveling doesn’t mean my health goals disappear—even during a challenge. The good news? You can absolutely enjoy your trip and stay on track.
Whether it’s a full vacation or a quick weekend getaway, I like to make space for workouts and balanced eating. And before you ask—yes, I still relax and enjoy my vacation. But for me, working out actually helps me relax. Even on theme-park-heavy trips, we still find ways to fit movement in.
Steps count more than you think.
One of the easiest ways to stay active on vacation is simply walking. We always bring our fitness trackers (Fitbit or something similar) and keep them charged. Theme park days can easily hit 20,000+ steps, so if you track steps, you’ll likely smash your goal without even trying. Plus, trackers help with water reminders and keeping track of reservations or ride times.
Plan a rest or resort day. 🏊
No matter where we travel—theme parks, cities, or historical destinations—we always plan a rest day. This is the perfect time to sleep in, enjoy a slow breakfast, relax by the pool, and squeeze in a gym session. If you’re traveling with kids, check whether your resort offers supervised activities or kids’ clubs. Even an hour can give you time for a workout or a quick date.
If the gym isn’t realistic, movement can still happen: swimming, walking the resort, playground time with the kids, or even pool workouts. It all counts.
Eating on vacation (without missing out).
We still enjoy vacation food—snacks and all. The trick? Planning ahead. Before trips, we look at restaurant menus and decide what fits into our balanced eating habits. Sometimes we share meals or order from the kids’ menu. Usually, we aim for protein, veggies (or fruit at breakfast), a small carb option, and water.
Desserts? We share those too. That way we get the treat without going overboard—and it’s budget-friendly.
Hydration is key.We always keep water bottles with us. Staying hydrated keeps your energy up, helps your body recover, and costs zero calories. Of course, we still enjoy fun drinks like coffee, soda, or the occasional cocktail
—but in moderation.
Pack the fitness essentials.
Protein powder and creatine are easy to travel with. We portion them into labeled bags or bring sample packets. Protein helps with recovery, keeps you full, and can even double as a quick snack or meal replacement when you're busy exploring.
At the end of the day, vacations are meant to be enjoyed. Get your movement in, be mindful of your choices, but don’t let food guilt steal the fun. Enjoy the treats, stay balanced, and remember—your goals are still totally within reach, even on vacation. You’ve got this. 💪✈️
